  • Repayment threshold: £25,000 per year (Plan 5 for courses starting after August 2023)
  • Repayment rate: 9% of income above the threshold — not 9% of your total salary
  • Automatic deductions: Repayments are taken directly from your salary by your employer
  • Loan written off: Any remaining balance is written off after 40 years
  • Interest rate: RPI (Retail Price Index) only — no additional interest above inflation
